Replace worn components
New treads, risers, nosing or trim can address deeper damage and change the look without rebuilding every structural element.
Coordinate railings
Handrails, newel posts and balusters should be planned with the stair finish so connections, spacing and colour read as one project.
When to refinish
Start with clear photos of the full stair run, the landing, the bottom and top transitions, the railing connections and any visible movement or damage. If carpet is covering the stairs, mention whether you know what is underneath. The condition of the existing treads and stringers affects whether refinishing, capping or component replacement is practical.
Options for refacing existing stairs
When existing treads need more than sanding and a new finish, we assess whether the practical scope is refacing or replacing treads, risers, nosing and related trim. Carpet and custom stair runners are also available. Existing materials and installation debris can be removed and disposed of as part of the quoted scope.
Plan the railing with the staircase
Wood or metal railings, handrails, balusters or pickets and newel posts should be reviewed with the stair finish. Coordinating them together helps the quote account for connections, trim, stain or paint, cleanup and how access between floors will be managed.
