What Happens When Water Hits Your Floor?
Water and indoor flooring just don't mix. When wood gets wet, it expands. This can cause 'cupping,' where the edges of a plank are higher than the center, or 'buckling,' where the boards lift right off the subfloor. For laminate or engineered floors, the core materials can swell up and delaminate, and that damage is usually permanent for the affected planks. The biggest worry isn't just what you see, though. It's the moisture that gets trapped underneath, creating a perfect spot for mould and mildew to grow, which can cause much bigger problems for your home and health.
Flooring Repair After Drying and Remediation
Before flooring work begins, the leak must be fixed and any required drying or remediation must be completed by another appropriate contractor. Delight Flooring does not test moisture or certify drying; if verification is required, it must be performed by an appropriate testing, drying or remediation contractor. Once the area is ready, we assess the affected flooring and substrate, define the removal and replacement scope, install compatible material where available, and finish the transitions included in the written quote.
Some projects need individual boards or planks replaced; others need a wider replacement area. Sanding or refinishing may be considered for solid hardwood where its condition allows.
