Let's silence those squeaky stairs for good.

Photos from above and below help determine which components can be reached without unnecessary finish damage.
Select fastening, blocking or joint treatment based on the moving connection—not the sound alone.

It's funny how such a big part of your home can make such a pesky noise. Most squeaks aren't a sign of a major problem, but they sure are annoying. Usually, it's just wood doing what wood does. Over time, changes in humidity cause the wooden parts of your staircase—the treads (what you step on) and the risers (the vertical part)—to shrink and expand. This creates tiny gaps. When you step on the tread, it rubs against the riser or the stringer (the side board), and that's the squeak you hear. Sometimes it's a loose nail or a gap that's opened up underneath.
Finding the exact source is the key to a lasting fix. Just sticking a shim in there is often a temporary solution that can even make things worse. We take the time to properly diagnose the issue before we start any work.
Fixing squeaky stairs doesn't have to be a huge, messy project. Our whole goal is to silence the noise with as little fuss as possible. First, we'll walk the stairs with you to pinpoint exactly which steps are the culprits. Then, we'll figure out the best way to tackle it. If we can get access from underneath (like from a basement), that's often the easiest way to secure everything. We can add glue and brace the treads and risers without touching the top of your stairs.
If there's no access from below, no worries at all! We have special tools and techniques to work from the top. We can use counter-sunk screws and special adhesives to lock the components together tightly, eliminating that friction. We're experts at doing this neatly, whether your stairs are hardwood, painted, or even carpeted. When we're done, the only thing you'll notice is the beautiful sound of silence.
Repair expectations: Repair appearance depends on the condition of the surrounding floor and the availability of compatible matching material.

HomeOwner • 11 Oct 2012 • HomeStars"Rudy was down right professional from the very beginning when we first contacted him over the phone. He was prompt to the appointment, came with samples and had all the knowledge we needed to spruce up our condo before the new tenants moved in. We love how it all looked in the end and will be considering Rudy for our own home flooring work in the future."
Ryan & Giselle D • 24 Feb 2014 • HomeStars"Rudy and his team were great to work with. They are efficient, accommodating, fair in price and courteous. They supplied and installed hardwood flooring throughout our entire house, refinished our railings and replaced the pickets. We thought the step-down in our sunken living room would be difficult to fix and complete, but Rudy did a beautiful job and we couldn't be happier!"
