Trace the movement
Locate whether the sound comes from a tread, riser, stringer connection or a moving fastener.
Locate whether the sound comes from a tread, riser, stringer connection or a moving fastener.
Photos from above and below help determine which components can be reached without unnecessary finish damage.
Select fastening, blocking or joint treatment based on the moving connection—not the sound alone.

Most stair noise comes down to friction. Over time, the wood in your staircase expands and contracts with Oshawa's changing humidity. This can loosen the joints and fasteners that hold the treads (what you step on) and risers (the vertical boards) to the stringers (the main support frame). When you step on the stair, these loose components rub against each other or the nail shafts, creating that familiar squeak.
We find the exact source of the squeak before we do anything else. A quick fix isn't a real fix. Depending on the cause and whether we can access the stairs from underneath, our methods are designed for durability. We often use specialized trim-head screws to securely refasten loose treads and risers, which leaves a as discreet as conditions allow finish. For gaps, we inject high-strength construction adhesive that hardens to eliminate movement and friction. If we can get underneath, we may add glue blocks for extra reinforcement. The goal is always the same: stop the movement, stop the noise.

We had a quote within 30 mins, and were given lots of options on what type of hardwood/laminate we should install. They were on time, great at communicating, and used to dealing with condo's (a bonus for those with strict riles to adhere to). I would 100% recommend Delight Flooring to anyone as they did an amazing job!"
