Trace the movement
Locate whether the sound comes from a tread, riser, stringer connection or a moving fastener.
Locate whether the sound comes from a tread, riser, stringer connection or a moving fastener.
Photos from above and below help determine which components can be reached without unnecessary finish damage.
Select fastening, blocking or joint treatment based on the moving connection—not the sound alone.

It's rarely just one thing. A stair squeak is the sound of wood moving and rubbing against another piece of wood or a nail. Most often, the stair tread (the part you step on) has slightly separated from the riser (the vertical piece) or the stringer (the sawtooth frame holding it all up). Over time, wood naturally shrinks and expands with Cookstown's humidity changes, and fasteners can loosen. This creates tiny gaps, and when you add weight, you get that infamous creak.
We don't believe in quick fixes like squirting a little something into a gap and hoping for the best. That's not a real repair. Our process is methodical because that's the only way to get a lasting, quiet result.
First, we conduct a detailed assessment. We’ll walk your stairs, step by step, applying pressure in different spots to isolate the exact source of each sound. We listen, feel for movement, and map out every single problem area, not just the loudest ones. It’s about understanding the unique construction of your staircase.
Next, we apply the correct solution for the specific issue. For a loose tread, we might use a combination of high-strength construction adhesive and specialized counter-sunk screws to re-secure it to the stringer, completely eliminating movement. If the riser is the culprit, we can reinforce it from behind where possible. The goal is always to make the components act as a single, solid unit again.
Finally, it's about the details. Any screw holes are meticulously filled with matching wood putty and sanded smooth, making the repair as discreet as conditions allow. We protect surrounding surfaces and conduct a thorough cleanup. When we leave, the only change you'll notice is the satisfying silence. Give us a call at (647) 898-7839 to discuss your project.

"Just like everyone out there trying to upgrade their home, we decided to update the living room flooring from old dirty carpet to nice low maintenance Laminate. Thinking we could do it ourselves as DIY folks. Well like all great projects, we failed to estimate the cost of the tools to do the project and our lack of expertise. In desperation, after installing the underlay, we realized we could not do the job. I was extremely luck in finding Rudy from Delightflooring. He was able to response to my email within 30 minutes and was available to start the next day on installation of our living room floor. His service is exceptional and perhaps one of the best floor installers in Canada. He worked without breaks and hard installing the floor. It came out extremely beautiful. He brought amazing tools to do the job and did the job without error on first time cuts. He tackled difficult corners and was able to make the installation seamless. Would I recommend this installer to anyone. YES YES YES. He deserves an award for being the most conscious, clean and precise installer in the construction business. We need more like him with this kind of skill and customer service."
